mare’s future headquarters will be quite close to each other: the Cascina di Torrette di Trenno farmstead and a building that has yet to be erected in via Novara 75. These two spaces are located in Milan’s Zona 7, west from the city centre, in a suburban area where mare has already started implementing its model for territorial development.
Zona 7 is a curious ensemble of historical settlements that never quite came together as one Baggio, Quinto Romano, Figino and Quarto Cagnino together with unevenly distributed and designed residential areas, that range from workingclass housing units to prestigious residences.
San Siro’s Meazza Stadium, the San Carlo Hospital, the Santa Barbara military base and the ATM warehouse are the most impressive sights in this area, together with some of Milan’s most beautiful parks: the Parco dell Cave, the Bosco in Città, the Parco di Trenno and the Parco Agricolo Sud.
This area offers a good transportation system and is connected by two metro lines (M1 and M5) but the urban fabric appears disjointed, poor in meeting points and commercial activities. It lacks a local system of cultural activities. District associations encourage and foster the development of a more lively community life and these organizations play an important role in mare’s mission: by establishing close relations with local operators the enterprise spreads its vision of a multi centrical Milan.
Waiting for the designed headquarters to be actually available, in order to officially launch this Zona 7 operation mare has found a temporary home in Via Gabetti 15, inside the “Cenni di Cambiamento” social housing complex, just a few meters away from the Cascina Torrette di Trenno farmstead and Via Novara 75.
The Cascina di Torrette di Trenno is located in via Giuseppe Gabetti 15.
Its 1700 square meters will host:
2 rehearsal rooms
40 coworking stations
1 popular cuisine
3 rooms for participatory planning
500squaremeter courtyard
1 common bookshop
Via Novara 75 takes its name from the actual address it was assigned by the City of Milan. Its 6000 freshly built square meters will spread over three levels:
2 theatre and concert halls (one with a capacity of 150 spectators, the other can host up to 400 people)
3 movie theaters
2 audio recording studios
5 rehearsal rooms workshops, exhibition areas, multipurpose spaces
1 guesthouse
1 bar/bistrot
1 common bookshop
1 fully equipped public green area apt for adults, children and dogs.
